The Thöni-Gander host family

150 Years of Hotel Bella Vista

We’re so pleased that you’ve found us – a warm welcome from the Thöni-Gander family! We’re here for you.

In 2025, we, the Thöni family, will celebrate a truly special anniversary: 150 years of Hotel Bella Vista in Trafoi. Since 1875, we have had the privilege of welcoming travelers from all over the world and creating unforgettable memories together. For five generations, we have carried on this tradition with passion, dedication, and a deep connection to our beautiful region.

Ortles/Ortler hospitality since 1875

Ortles/Ortler has left its mark on Stelvio Hotels in two respects. King Ortles/Ortler, the majestic giant of rock and ice, is our backdrop. But Ortler was also the surname of Ludwig, the great-grandfather of ski legend Gustav Thöni, who built the “Zur schönen Aussicht” guesthouse in Trafoi in 1875. We’re the fifth generation to dedicate themselves to hospitality. And the sixth is now growing up at Hotel Bella Vista.

Our Story in Trafoi – A Place with Heart and Soul

It all began 150 years ago when our great-great-grandfather Josef Thöni founded Bella Vista. At that time, Trafoi was a hidden gem in the Alps, but Josef had a vision: to create a place where people could experience the beauty of the mountains and the warmth of its people.

What started as a small inn grew over the decades into one of South Tyrol’s most traditional hotels. Our house became a meeting place for nature-loving families who wanted to discover the magic of the Alps under the motto "Great Nature – Happy Family."

Hospitality is at the Heart of Our Home

Petra Maria

Petra manages the hotel and leads the team of Stelvio Hotels.
She’s always there if you need assistance or a tip: open, warm, and positive, she creates holiday happiness from the very first moment.

Stephan

Stephan, Petra’s husband, samples fine wines with you during his wine tasting sessions and shows you his favourite spots on hikes together.
He also loves going on tours up Passo dello Stelvio/Stilfserjoch …

Ingrid

Petra’s mother Ingrid takes care of your well-being with lots of charm.
With many years of experience as a hotelier, nothing escapes her notice – not even the tiniest detail.

Gustav

And then there’s ski legend Gustav Thöni.
In winter, Petra’s father gives you expert tips for getting the most out of your skiing experience, and in summer he’s in charge of our barbecue evenings.

We Say Thank You

150 years is more than just a milestone to celebrate – it is, above all, an opportunity to say thank you. Thank you to all our guests who choose to stay with us. Thank you to our employees, who live and share our family’s values every day. And thank you to the mountains, which enrich our lives and inspire us anew every single day.

You are warmly welcome at Hotel Bella Vista – where tradition and hospitality have been at home for 150 years.

It wouldn’t be possible without our team.

If you feel right at home at Stelvio Hotels, much of that is down to our team. Petra, Carmen, Katharina, Susanne and Jasmine are the reception team, the friendly voices on the telephone and dynamic assistance at the reception. Our kitchen team wields their wooden spoons in the Bella Vista kitchen and delights you with refined Alpine-Mediterranean delicacies. Anna, Samuele e Matthias serve you at the bar and in the dining room at Hotel Bella Vista. The expert team in the Bear Club care for and entertain the exuberant gaggle of children. And many other dedicated people work hard every day to ensure that you can enjoy a carefree holiday with us – it wouldn’t be possible without them.
